The Foodbank, Inc
During your shift, you will be participating in one of the following programs: 1) Good-To-Go Backpack Build – Assembling bags of food for local children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade who qualify for free or reduced school meals. The bags you assemble will go home with them in their backpacks on Fridays to maintain their access to food through the weekend. 2) Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) Senior Box Build — Constructing boxes of pantry staples for seniors ages 65+ who are 150% below the federal poverty line. Once a month, these boxes are delivered locally to registered recipients. 3) Donated Dry Goods Sorting and Repack — This is a two-part program that prepares donated dry goods for distribution to the Foodbank’s partner agencies in our local service area. Typically, one part of the program happens per shift. Sorting (part 1) includes checking every product for damage, expiration dates, and nutritional information and placing product into the correct category bin. Repack (part 2) entails filling up boxes of sorted product to a target weight and preparing pallets of repacked product for order picking. GENERAL RULES Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and masks are optional. No outside food, drink, or gum is allowed in the warehouse (including water bottles), but these items can be stored and consumed in our break room. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and any volunteer under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Personal items such as coats, bags, etc. can be stored in the lockers in our volunteer annex, but please bring your own lock if you require extra security. PARKING Please park in the main lot and enter through the front glass door. If there are not enough spaces in the lot, we also have an additional parking lot behind the building. In this case, you can come in through the back door in the volunteer building. SIGN-IN The volunteer team will let you know which program we will be running when you show up to your shift. When you arrive, scan the QR code at the front desk and log in to Volunteer Matters to sign-in for your shift. If you have any issues, please ask a volunteer team member for assistance. ORIENTATON Please arrive 15 minutes before your shift to sign-in, enjoy a complimentary water or coffee in the break room, and use the bathroom. During this time, a volunteer host will introduce you to the Foodbank and give an overview of the program you will be participating in during your shift. Around halfway through the shift, there will be a mandatory 10 minute break for all volunteers.
